On beauty

If you are interested in Edwards on beauty you should be aware that the Liberty Fund have reissued Francis Hutcheson's An Inquiry into the Original of Our Ideas of Beauty and Virtue (1725). They also have some volumes by George Turnbull. The printed volumes are particularly handsome and well done - but you can also download free PDFs of the texts. Hutcheson is here.

You may also be interested in our republication (with Wipf and Stock) of Delattre's Beauty and Sensibility in the Thought of Jonathan Edwards. It is worth it just for the foreword. Email us for pricing and ordering.

That sounds very interesting. FYI, I just returned from Russia where I taught on the life and works of JE. It was very interesting to get their reactions to him. BTW, I had the team translate his "Resolutions" into Russian. This may be a first, but I'm not sure.

It seems to me you can't even think Edward's thoughts about moral agency without his idea of beauty. And without that there is no explanation of the revival phenomena, his redemptive theology...or nearly anything at all about him or his works.

I can't wait to read these books.
